How Sol works
Sol works separately with a parent and their child. Each has a private conversation with Sol by voice or text, usually over one to three short sessions. The process begins with a short application, not a document upload.
The process
- 1
Apply and receive a human review
The first application asks for basic information only. Do not send an IEP, IPP, assessment, medical record, or other private document with the application. A real person on the research team reviews it to see whether the study may be a fit.
- 2
Accepted families receive a secure invite
The parent reads the complete participation information and completes consent in the secure web app. The child receives a separate invitation and completes an age-appropriate assent process. Both can withdraw at any time.
- 3
Share the document you want reviewed
Only after consent, the parent may securely upload the child’s latest IEP, IPP, assessment, or another support document they are authorized to provide.
- 4
You and your child talk with Sol separately
The parent and child each have a private conversation by voice or text, usually over one to three short sessions. Sol asks open questions about learning, strengths, goals, and support needs. Neither conversation is automatically shown to the other person.
- 5
Sol prepares four personalized support documents
Sol organizes the interviews and the documents the family authorizes into a Learner Profile, Educational Evidence and Present Levels Report, Regional Center IPP Preparation Report, and Partial IEP Working Draft. Each is supplied as a draft for the family to review; the document review informs these four documents and is not a fifth report.
- 6
Your family receives all four documents free
Families who complete the study receive all four personalized support documents at no charge. The family can review the material and decide whether to use any part of it. Nothing is shared with a school, Regional Center, or another outside organization without explicit permission.
A note on privacy
Sol conversations are stored securely and accessed only by the research team. The child’s conversation is never automatically shared with their parent, and vice versa. Each participant is given the applicable consent or assent information before taking part and may withdraw at any time.
