Ethics and data

Isaac S. Lee’s doctoral research proposal involving Sol has received ethical approval through the University of Cambridge’s Faculty of Education ethics process. The approved research governs Isaac’s study activities and participant materials.

Edra, Inc. owns and operates Sol, the website, participant accounts, and the platform. Cambridge does not own or operate Sol and is not a partner in Edra. Edra is responsible for the website privacy policy, terms, platform security, and PoC operations.

Sol uses encrypted connections, role-based access, private document storage, malware scanning and audit records. Caregiver and learner conversations are separate and are not automatically shown to one another. Raw participant voice and generated Sol audio are not retained by the application.

For the controlled PoC, source documents and active account details are normally deleted within six months after participation ends. Consent, audit, coded transcripts, and de-identified research records may be retained for ten years after the research project ends. Shorter periods apply to applications, logs, and rolling backups. A safety, legal, integrity, or approved research requirement may require a record to be kept longer. The full schedule appears in the Privacy Policy.

Participation is voluntary throughout. Any participant may pause or withdraw without giving a reason by sending QUIT to Sol or by contacting support@edra1.com. Edra will stop new collection and explain what can be deleted and what must remain because it is de-identified, part of completed analysis, or required for safety, law, research integrity, or a legal claim.

The research is conducted by Isaac S. Lee as doctoral research at the University of Cambridge under an approved research proposal.
